The country’s highly revered DPMM FC today signed several contracts with new players in an event that took place at the Centrepoint in Gadong that is anticipated to cement participation among them for upcoming matches both at home and abroad.
As part of this new lineup, the signees include previous DPMM FC players, and several fresh faces handpicked and recognised from various national leagues as well as one new import player from Iran.
In several interviews, the six players who spoke to the New Brunei Daily expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity to represent the country and have pledged to contribute their talent and skills in the development of this globally loved sport.
Formerly from Indera FC, 19-year-old goalkeeper Haimie Anak Nyaring who was recently awarded the DST Super League’s Best Player said, “I am happy to be part of this team. I am very motivated,” on how he feels after being selected to be part of DPMM FC’s squad that have gone off to play in several regional matches such as the S-League under Singapore’s sporting initiative.
For some, the enlistment has become a family affair. After passing through trials and offered a contract with the country’s most acclaimed football club, Abdul Azizi Ali Rahman who previously played for MS ABDB will be united with his younger brother, Azwan Ali Rahman.
Speaking of his fortune, he said, “I got the call after returning home from holiday. I was told to attend the trials. It is like a dream come true when I passed,” he said. He had previously been in the same team in various occasions with his younger brother but expressed that being in DPMM FC together is different.
“I feel proud to have the opportunity to be in DPMM FC with my brother,” said the current leading top scorer in DST Super League’s history.
Young 17-year-old centre midfielder, Abdul Hariz @Amani Herman, who had played for Brunei Darussalam’s Young Wasps, is among the new players signed by DPMM FC. “Alhamdulillah. I feel uplifted,” replied Abdul Hariz when asked how he felt about getting this opportunity. He is playing football full time and has an ambition of being in the first eleven of the team.
Iranian striker, Mojtaba Esmaeilzadeh from Iranjavan FC is the first import player signed under the new coach, Renê Weber. He had played professionally in multiple leagues such as the Persian Gulf Pro League side Sepidrood, Azadegan League and had made 28 appearances for former club Foolad Yazd, managing three goals.
“My position on the field is midfielder right, midfielder left and forward. I can play these three positions,” said the 27-year old Iranian footballer. “Thank you very much DPMM FC, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and coach Renê Weber for having trust in me to be in a team with good players and good coaches. We will be champion, Insha-Allah,” expressed Mojtaba on his contract signing.
Senior players for DPMM FC, Wardun Yussof and Azwan Muhamad Salleh, had wise words of motivation to the selected new players.
“I hope to see the new players show their football spirit and play with their heart on the football field. I hope they will not be careless and let this opportunity go to waste,” said Wardun Yussof.
Azwan Muhamad Salleh further highlighted Wardun’s advice by saying, “They beat out numerous other players to be selected in DPMM FC during the trials. We hope they will not waste this opportunity”.
DPMM FC’s squad of 2018 include Md Wardun Yussof, Pg Md Mu’izzuddin Pg Ismail, Haimie Anak Nyaring, Mohammad Helmi Zambin, Ak Mohd Fakharrazi Pg Hj Hassan, Abdul Aziz Tamit, Muhammad Hanif Hamir, Reduan Hj Petara, Ak Yura Indera Putera Pg Yunus, Abdul Mu’iz Sisa, Suhaimi Anak Sulau, Muhammad Nurikhwan Othman, Muhd Azim Izamuddin Hj Suhaimi, Mohd Hendra Azam Mohd Idris, Azwan Muhamad Salleh, Muhd Azwan Ali Rahman, Abd Hariz @Amani Herman, Mohammad najib Haji Tarif, Adi Said, Md Shahrazen Said, Abdul Azizi Ali Rahman, Muhammad Shafie Hj Mohd Efenddy and Moitaba Esmaeilzadeh Mollassaraei.
“We have signed new players this season; a youthful squad enlisted by the new coach,” said DPMM FC team manager Awang Ali bin Haji Momin, who explained that the new coach has included youth as part of this season’s strategy whilst expressing his full support for this decision and of the newly signed players.
